ART OF SPEED

TEAMS WE'VE WORKED WITH

WHY ATHLETES DON'T ACHIEVE ELITE SPEED

Many speed coaches train team-sport athletes as if they were specialist sprinters, forgetting that team players need to be all-rounders. They’re required to do much more than just sprint in a straight line.

This mismatch in training programs is why speed drills often fail to benefit team athletes. Traditional speed training doesn’t address the range of physical attributes needed for team sports, and the training loads are poorly managed. Worse, speed is developed in isolation, making it difficult to translate to the unpredictable nature of team sports.

Unfortunately, the most attention-grabbing speed drills — like fancy cone setups and flashy footwork through agility ladders — get the spotlight, even though they don’t translate to meaningful performance gains. To build genuine speed, you need a solid 3-step formula that most "speed coaches" don’t utilize.

THE 3 ELEMENTS OF

SPEED PRODUCTION

RELATIVE FORCE PRODUCTION IN THE GYM

The first key to speed is building relative force. Athletes cannot achieve speed without first cultivating power. When an athlete generates more force relative to their body weight, it directly correlates to increased speed—it's a matter of physics. This strength is not cultivated on the field; it is forged in the gym.

Powerful athletes possess the potential to be fast, while weaker athletes will struggle to reach that level of speed.

ACCELERATION AND MAX SPEED TECHNIQUE

It's undeniable that enhancing running mechanics can significantly benefit team-sport athletes; it's often the easiest change to make with the greatest rewards. Athletes who optimize their quickness in the initial steps consistently gain an edge in team sports.

Similarly, those who can maximize their top-end speed through effective mechanics will see substantial benefits.

FIELD-BASED SIMULATION

The third element is so straightforward that it’s surprising how frequently it gets overlooked in speed training. If you want to be fast, you need to practice running fast.

Ultimately, no drills focused on improving mechanics or strength training can reach their full potential without actual sprinting.

Therefore, it’s clear that the third element is genuine speed simulation.

HOW IT WORKS

Our Speed & Agility training is fully integrated into our Comprehensive and Foundational Athlete Performance Memberships at no extra cost.

We achieve this through a blend of gym-based training and on-field sessions, where all the hard work comes together to minimize injury risk for team-sport athletes. This integrated training enhances: strength and power (element one),

refines running mechanics (element two), and delivers a comprehensive dose of real speed training (element three).

Our approach helps athletes at every level fortify their weaknesses, reduce injury risk, and unlock their speed potential. Unlike other programs that only focus on on-field training, we offer a complete solution, addressing all aspects necessary to maximize speed.

We do offer isolated Speed & Agility training for non-members, but highly recommend an integrated approach to maximize results.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is my program customized to my needs?

No two athletes are created equal, and because of that, all programs are individualized as needed for our athletes. The sports assessment allows us to identify exactly what you need to take your performance to the next level in a way that is unique to you.

How is my progress monitored?

Athlete progress is constantly monitored. Whether that’s in day-to-day training and reporting, or more formally every eight to twelve weeks with performance testing using advanced technology. We hold ourselves accountable to data and believe that what doesn’t get measured, doesn’t improve.

How often should I train to maximize results?

All training programs are individualized for our athletes and for that reason, some athletes will see results with two sessions, while others might need more. We make suggestions on training frequency based on variables including: your schedule, whether you are in pre-season, off- season, or in-season, and your training history. Generally, the higher your exposure to strength, power, and speed training, the greater the outcome. We recommend at least three (3) sessions per week for higher level athletes. If you’re a novice to this form of training, two (2) times per week usually works well.

Am I coached and supervised when I train?

Yes, small squad training offers 4:1 athlete: coach ratio meaning you will train with up to 4 other athletes at a time. We keep our athlete to coach ratio low to ensure adequate supervision and a more personalized experience.

At what age do you start training athletes?

There is an expectation of a high level of maturity and focus during our coaching sessions. While we don’t usually work with athletes less than twelve years old, we have trained athletes as young as eleven years old. If we’re confident after meeting that you’ll fit our training culture, we’ll invite you to train. If you’re just a little too young, we’ll let you know when we think you’ll be ready.

What are the payment options?

There are 3 automatic payment options:

  1.  Annual: Payment due (10% of Regular weekly rate) in full at first training session.

• We want to incentivize those that are truly committed to the process.

  1. Weekly: Payment is due every week, beginning one week after the initial payment, and continuing weekly for the entire training period.

  1. Monthly: Payment is due every month, starting one month from the initial payment date and continuing monthly for the entire duration of the training term.

Why can’t I pay per session?

Just as Rome wasn’t built in a day, achieving athletic ambition and peak performance takes time and dedication. True progress comes from sustained effort over the long term. By committing to a minimum of 4 months of training and making regular auto-payments, you ensure consistent participation and give our expertise, training system, and your dedication the opportunity to deliver outstanding results.

What if I miss a session or a session is canceled?

If you are unable to attend a scheduled session, it WILL NOT BE REFUNDED. There are up to 32 training slots a week, allowing ample availability for rescheduling. This model benefits ALL clients, allowing us to maintain open availability for scheduling flexibility and promotes consistent training to optimize outcomes.

It’s kind of expensive, why is that?

Our program includes unique features you won’t find elsewhere, and we incorporate advanced technology that other training models often charge extra for. We’ve built these into our pricing to keep it reasonable while covering essential costs. This approach enables us to continue using cutting-edge technology, provide exclusive benefits and ensure access to top-notch facilities while maintaining flexible scheduling for your convenience. Additionally, we pursue the highest levels of continuing education, licenses, and certifications to offer the highest quality of coaching. The result is a top-quality training program that stands out. Remember, training is an investment in your athletic future.
